VETERAN Day Muyambo is confident that he will defend his Golden Pilsener Harare Open title when the event tees off on Thursday at Chapman.
The third edition of the tournament will be a 54-hole stroke play and has a US$25 000 purse bankrolled by Delta’s Golden Pilsener brand.
At least 40 professionals, and some top amateurs, will battle it out at Chapman.
Muyambo, who was a convener at the Airforce of Zimbabwe Golf Day last week, said he is ready to defend his title.
“I think I am in the right frame to go and defend my title at Chapman,” said Muyambo.
“I have been practicing and I am correcting everything that I feel need to be corrected. Playing at Chapman is always challenging but like everyone else I look forward to doing well and successfully defending my title.
“There are a lot of good players and I am looking forward to their challenge as my driving is fine and so is my putting so I can say I am ready for the challenge.”
Muyambo’s 71, 69 and 70 for 210 return was a shot better than the trio of Ryan Cairns, Tongo Charamba and Ignatius Mketekete who were tied for second position.
Cairns, who had led round one and two, struggled with his putting in the final round.
Last year, the best amateur was Ben Follet-Smith who has since moved to the United States.
