FORMER Highlanders’ striker Jacob Muzokomba used his experience to help Nichrut gain promotion to the Premier Soccer League by top scoring as the Shurugwi-based side lifted the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) championship.
Muzokomba’s 20 goals in the just ended season saw him walking away with the Golden Boot, making him the third top scorer of all-time since the CSL was launched in 2010.
Whawha goal poacher Albert Matewu smashed the goal scoring charts in 2014 when he netted 24 times to help the prison warders secure promotion to the topflight league and in the process eclipsing Hardbody’s Calisto Maheya’s 21-goal haul in the 2011 season.
After being deemed excess baggage by Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa during the off-season, Muzokomba found sanctuary at CSL side ZPC Munyati where he found his scoring prowess.
He was quickly off the blocks when he scored six goals in nine matches and by the halfway stage of the 2017 season, he had found the back of the net nine times.
He later joined the trailblazing Nichrut side where he went on to score 11 goals.
Muzokomba said he was happy to revive his career by clinching the Golden Boot.
“I am happy that I managed to revive my career, especially coming from a team like Dynamos and plying my trade in Division One. This meant I had to prove that I am not a spent force. Now that I have my confidence back, I now want to help Nichrut cement their place in the Premiership and thereafter consider other offers,” said Muzokomba.
The striker made his Premiership debut in 2004 turning out for Lancashire Steel. He later left the country to join Mbabane Highlanders in the Swaziland Premiership in 2006 before returning to the domestic league in 2009 in the Highlanders’ colours.
After a season with Bosso, Muzokomba returned to Swaziland where he turned out for Mbabane Sundowns for three seasons.
He later joined the now defunct Hardbody in the 2012 July transfer window.
Following the relegation of Hardbody he joined Buffalos in 2013 until 2015 before joining Dynamos the following season. – @lavuzigara1
