Muzongondi confident of victory

The Cyclone Stars midfielder has now been handed the captaincy after Onai Chingawo quit football following her marriage to Dynamos forward Russel Madamombe.

While the technical team have maintained the goalkeeper has just not been considered for the two international matches against Zambia and South Africa, as they are giving other players a chance, it’s clear Chingawo has called time on her football career.

Muzongondi’s first match as leader was the 3-1 victory against She-polopolo in Lusaka two weeks ago, and she capped it with a goal.

And the hardworking midfielder is looking for another victory here.
Speaking after the team’s first training session here, following their arrival on Wednesday evening, Muzongondi said they were now a formidable side.

“We now know how the South Africans play. Some of their players are slow but they keep possession of the ball,” said Muzongondi.

“The good thing is that three quarters of the team has been playing together for some time now. We just need to concentrate the whole 90 minutes and we will come out with something.

“We played in Zambia and have been working at training with the coaches working on our mistakes. We are confident enough that we will win.”

The skipper said all the players have been working hard at training.
“There is a lot of competition in the team and even the young players are giving us a lot competition, they just lack experience but in terms of play we are the same.

“We also want to perform well in our competitions this year and we know it starts with these friendly matches,” said Muzongondi.

The new skipper said she was enjoying her new duties.
“I am doing very well as the new captain and l am managing. Even when Onai was still there, as the deputy, I would be in charge in some of the matches,” said Muzongondi.

In their previous encounters last year, Banyana Banyana beat the Mighty Warriors 1-0 and drew 1-1 in the other match.

However, the matches are always close contests and that could the story tomorrow.
