Mvuma man sentenced for exhuming body

The 27-year-old Mvuma man who recently exhumed the three-weeks-old baby’s body and dumped it at the door- step of his mother-in-law accusing her of bewitching the infant has been sentenced to perform community service.Talent Majoni of Village Chirodza under chief Chaka pleaded guilty to violating a dead body when he appeared before Gweru magistrate, Mildred Matuvi who sentenced him to perform 420 hours of community service at Hozheri Primary.

Prosecuting, Bernard Nyoni told the court that on October, 15, 2013 Majoni’s baby who was three weeks died after a short illness.
The court heard that Majoni then confronted his mother in-law, Tapiwa Madzimo, accusing her of bewitching the baby.

Nyoni said Majoni proceeded to the river where the baby was buried by the elderly in the village under the Shona tradition and exhumed the body.

He took the body and dumped it at the mother in-law’s bedroom entrance. Madzimo reported the matter to the policed leading to Majoni’s arrest.
