“My preparations are going on pretty well. I am just staying patient with my workouts and I do not want to peak too early,” said Mvumvure.
Mvumvure is aiming to be at his peak by the time he takes on some of the world’s best at the London Games. Last month, the sprinter was at the Penn Relays in Pennsylvania, United States, where he finished third in the seniors’ 100m event.
The Louisiana State University student believes he could have won had he not took a cautious approach.
“My race at the Penn Relays was pretty good, execution wise. But I ran a little conservative because it was really cold and I didn’t want to pick up any injuries,” said Mumvure from his base in the United States.
The Zimbabwean sprinter struggled for the greater part of last year after suffering a hamstring injury in May 2011. After pulling the muscle, Mvumvure took time to recover and failed to click at the World Athletics Championship in Daegu, South Korea.
Makusha made history by becoming the only Zimbabwean athlete ever to win a medal at a world athletics’ championships.
Mvumvure had started 2011 on a promising note, winning the collegiate 100m at LSU in a blistering 9.97s but the injury slowed his progress and he didn’t participate at the All-Africa Games.
