Naison Muchekela’s La Liga got the priceless goal via Scholar Hadebe 10 minutes from time to silence the ambitious Highfield United.
Mike Madzivanyika’s Highfield United were playing their first match this season and would be hoping to get back to winning ways when they date Black Rhinos in a re-arranged match at Gwanzura tomorrow.
The army side got off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Cossy Rules at One Commando.
Veteran Brighton Chandisaita scored the only goal of the match.
Newcomers DC Academy, owned by Zimbabwe international Dickson Choto, also started their maiden campaign brightly with a 2-1 victory over Karoi away at Chikangwe.
A 45th minute free kick by defender Dennis Dzingai and midfielder Carlos Rusere’s goal in the 66th minute was enough to see off Karoi who pulled one back just before full-time.
DC Academy will tomorrow play fellow newboys Commando Bullets at One Commando in another re-arranged match.
DC Academy coach Newton Chitewe said they would be taking each game as it comes.
“Our first match away was tough and we were lucky to collect maximum points.
“We got our chances and we were able to convert them.
“The pitch was a bit bumpy but we expect such things when playing away. We are new in the league and have inexperienced players and we are not putting ourselves under pressure,” said Chitewe.
At Dzivarasekwa Harare City won big when they thrashed visiting ZPC Kariba 4-0.
Bigboy Mawiwi’s charges got their goals from Quinton Matsika, Nomore Saramaya, Godfrey Nguwodzawo and Lewis Samu.
Flame Lily were held to a 2-2 draw by newcomers BACA at Manyame. The prison outfit scored through Kingston Chinhemba and Floyd Sagumba while the visitors replied via Kennedy Walaza and Stanley Chimucheka.
DStv also had a share of spoils with Effiel Flats at Old Hararians.
Taurai Charakupa scored for the Multichoice side and the Kadoma team got their goal from Misheck Phiri. Meanwhile, it was goals galore in the Central Region side where former Premiership Chapungu destroyed Division One newboys Blanket Mine 7-0 at Ascot Stadium. A superb performance by the airmen saw regular scorer Brighton Mugoni and Owen Marashwa weighing in with a brace each while Dumisani Mufudze, Owen Motsi and Abton Chekai completed the rout.
