Producers of the movie on girl child titled “Mwanasikana ” continue working on a sequel that addresses various issues hinged on gender stereotypes in the community. The sequel is based on young woman Tsitsi’s plight to find her biological father in a distant village. Tsitsi’s journey in search of her father also lands her into another predicament after she is mistaken for Kenny’s girlfriend.With the help of Peter (Kenny’s friend) Tsitsi finds her father’s homestead and this is where the sequel’s story revolves around.
There are many unexpected twists and mysteries that will make yet another powerful story for viewers. Spokesperson and writer of “Mwanasikana” Nakai Tsuro said that just as in the first part; the story revolves around Tsitsi and her predicament as a girl child.
“Tsitsi has been the main character in the film and she continues to dominate because the main focus is on the girl child,” Tsuro said.
“There are few new faces added to the cast, which carry the sequel to another level.
“The first edition of ‘Mwanasikana’ suffered due to piracy across the nation and beyond Zimbabwe but fortunately this helped in attracting a wider viewership and we got feedback to come up with this sequel.”
Tsuro said that it is difficult to come up with big budget films in Zimbabwe at the moment because of piracy.
“We are still struggling to make big budget films in Zimbabwe because of piracy and lack of support in form of funding. We are left to produce our films on shoe string budgets.”
The cast includes Tinashe Pundo(Tsitsi), Edben Chagonda( Baba Gamu), Felistus Tizola ( Tete Mukwere), Antony Tongani (Baba Kenny), Boniface Chimedza (Kenny), Faith Naphazi (Gamu) and Simbarashe Mutanga (Peter) just to mention a few.
Tsuro said that they are looking at releasing the film towards the end of the month as they are still working on the première arrangements.
She also said that they have improved on the marketing strategy of the DVD as they are going to sell the film on order basis as well as putting it on the street.
