Mwaruwari tournament qualifiers kick off

BULAWAYO Junior Soccer League teams will battle it out this weekend in the qualifiers for the  Benjani Mwaruwari Under-16 tournament finals set for  White City Stadium on May 31.Ajax Hotspurs, Makhandeni, Bantu Rovers, Santos, LMC Academy, Luveve Juniors, Mpumelelo, Chicken Inn and Gwabalanda are the teams battling for the six slots available.

Ajax Hotspurs will lock horns with Bantu Rovers while Makhandeni will be hoping to continue their fine run in the competition after eliminating defending champions Highlanders in the second round.

Highlanders are not happy though and allege over- aged players were used. Makhandeni take on Santos, Chicken Inn square off with Gwabalanda while Luveve Juniors face Mpumelelo.

LMC Academy will be on a bye this weekend.

Two secondary schools will be invited to take part in the finals.

The tournament is in its third year and is sponsored by Mwaruwari, a former Zimbabwe international.

Zifa Bulawayo board member Mkhululi Mthunzi confirmed that this weekend’s fixtures will be the last round. “This would be the last round in the preliminary rounds, for the sixth team we will look at the best loser from these teams that are playing in the third round,” said Mthunzi.
