A Harare-based organisation, Mwenje Wedu Trust, on Wednesday brought Christmas cheer to the less-privileged after donating food hampers to children living with cerebral palsy.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mwenje Wedu Trust founder Ms Agnes Mutapi said the donations are meant to bring cheer to the vulnerable members of society this festive season.
“Most of these children are suffering from cerebral palsy. They have reached out to us, so we thought it was necessary as a trust to extend our helping hand and give them something to smile about over Christmas,” she said.
Ms Mutapi said her organisation will also assist other children with school fees.
“We are also going to donate a few gifts to two ladies who have reached out to us who need school fees.”
Chairman of the trust, Professor Norman Maphosa said: “Our underlying philosophy is that, by helping others, the candle does not lose light. If we give, it does not mean we will have nothing left, but if we give, providence will give us much more.”
One of the beneficiaries, Melisa Nyakudya, who has a son with cerebral palsy, commended the trust for its assistance.
“Being remembered by someone whilst you are not expecting it means a lot.
“My son is now six years old but he has a condition. I got a wheelchair from the trust and now it’s a Christmas hamper. I really appreciate this gesture,” she said.
