GIFT Mwinga scored the only goal of the game to give Chegutu Pirates a crucial 1-0 win over Arenel Movers at Baobab yesterday.
Mwinga headed home a fine cross from substitute Simba “Madhinye” Domingo late in the game to send the army of Pirates fans into delirium. The match had appeared set for a goalless draw until Mwinga intervened with the goal.
Shown live on ZTN Prime, the game was a cagey affair and there were few clearcut chances.
But Zaire were the better team towards the end and, after missing some fine chances, they eventually scored through Mwinga.
Meanwhile, Chicken Inn and Herentals settled for a goalless draw in a Castle Lager Premiership match at Luveve yesterday.
Herentals go back home a satisfied lot, earning a point, while Chicken Inn’ woes mounted, going for a long stretch without a win. Right from the first whistle, both teams struggled.
Chicken Inn’s Michael Charamba failed to connect a pass at the edge of the box, in what was an embarrassment of a miss.
The Gamecocks were awarded a free kick after Lincoln Mangaira was felled and Majika skied his effort.
The Gamecocks ended one man short after Mangaira was sent off for an early shower.
