A MAN’S crazy betting habits, in which he bets on anything – football, snooker and cards – has strained his marriage with his wife saying he was now out of control.
However, Jeremiah Mutuso hit back at his wife Patience Kapasi, telling a court in Harare that she has turned him into a zombie to such an extent that he doesn’t feel hurt anymore when she brings her boyfriend home.
The two clashed at the Harare Civil Court yesterday.
Patience said Jeremiah was a lazy man and addicted to gambling.
“He is into betting and his addiction is out of this world, he doesn’t want to work, all he does is wake up and bet on anything including soccer, snooker and playing cards.
“His brother has also tried to warn him against his habits but he won’t listen, whenever I try to do so he insults me in public.
“I reported him once to the police.
“He is lying that I have a boyfriend.”
Jeremiah accused Patience of teaming up with her boyfriend to harass and assault him in public.
He was seeking a protection order against Patience, accusing her of abuse.
He told the Harare Civil Court that his wife was a control freak.
“She told me that she no longer loves me after I caught her red-handed with another man in our house.
“Each time I bring up the issue she reports me to her boyfriend and they team up to assault me.
“I am now living like a slave in my own house because she refused to move out, she just wants me to accept that she can bring another man into our house.
“She now controls me to the extent that she does not want me to go out with my friends or to play snooker with my friends, if I do so without her approval, her boyfriend beats me up,” said Mutuso.
He added:
“Last week she dragged me while I was watching a soccer match and assaulted me in front of my friends, embarrassing me because I had gone out without her approval.
“I cannot share my wife with another man. She ended things with me so she must move out and stop harassing me.”
After hearing both arguments, magistrate Johanna Mukwesha dismissed the application for protection order for lack of merit.
