A HARARE man has claimed his stepmother puts bread crumbs in his blankets so that he gets bitten by ants while sleeping.
He was reacting to an application by his stepmother, Patricia Kadungwe, for a protection order against him.
But Pardon Jewu (32) said he was the one who needed to be protected from her.
“I’m a builder and grass cutter. I come home tired and have no strength to insult her.
“She and my stepsister put bread crumbs in my blankets so that I get bitten by ants.
“My stepsister doesn’t respect me as her brother. She insults me and wants me to move out of my father’s house.
“She spends the whole day sleeping and at night she makes noise by watching TV on loud volume, disturbing my sleep.
“They refuse to give me a proper room to sleep in and I sleep in the kitchen.
“My feet will be next to the fridge while my head will be touching the stove.
“Despite that, my stepsister irritates me by boiling water on the stove to make tea late at night when I am sleeping,” he said.
Patricia told the court that Pardon was disrespectful towards her and constantly used vulgar language when talking to her.
“He accuses me of witchcraft and a few months ago he dragged my daughter to this court.
“He is old enough now and must move out.
“His father has been in South Africa for years and I had no problem staying with him, but he’s now too disrespectful,” she said.
Magistrate Tamara Chibindi dismissed Patricia’s application, saying the court wasn’t convinced that she was under any kind of threat.
