AN unemployed man from Emakhandeni suburb in Bulawayo tried to axe his father and evict his siblings from the family house during a dispute over inheritance.
The father Isaac Mberi (pictured) never thought he would see the day when his eldest son Bossman Mberi would do what is considered taboo in the African culture when he tried to kill him. They had a disagreement on who would inherit their family home and tyre business in the event of his death.
A neighbour who asked not to be named told B-Metro that the house wrangle had sparked the heated altercation.
a?We were shocked when we heard screams at the house only to discover that Bossman was carrying an axe demanding full ownership of the house and business in the event of his fatheras death. When he discovered that the property would be shared equally among the siblings he went wild,a? said the source.
a?It seems as if he wanted to kill them all in cold blood as he was wielding an axe and threatening to kill his father and his siblings if they did not leave the house,a? he continued.
When B-Metro visited the house, Bossman was said to be behind bars as the matter will get a court date soon.
a?I did have an altercation with my son but I will not divulge any information on that as the matter is now a court case. He is currently in police cells on remand,a? said Isaac.
He continued to say that he was shocked that his neighbours had chosen to report the matter to news reporters instead of helping in his hour of need.
a?On the day of the incident I did not see any of my neighbours coming to my aid, they only rush to the newspapers instead of calling the police when need arises. I managed to solve the matter with my two other sons and it ended there, how did these other parties get the information?a? he quizzed.
