Witnesses said the strange wind was limited to the affected house only.
The incident, which has left many Mkoba residents puzzled, occurred at the weekend.
In an interview yesterday, the owner of the house, Mrs Bridget Zimbango (34) of Number 5776 Mkoba Village Seven, said her family was now leaving in the open following the incident.
Mrs Zimbango, who is a widow, said she was still failing to come to terms with the incident, which she described as unnatural.
“What happened was a mystery because it was a normal sunny Saturday when a whirlwind confined to my yard produced a queer sound before blowing off my house’s roof,” she said.
Mrs Zimbango said on the fateful day, she was alone at home when she suddenly saw herself in the open after her house’s roof was blown off.
“At first I heard a strange noise and in a matter of seconds, I saw myself in the open after the roof had been blown away,” said Mrs Zimbango, a mother of two.
Mrs Zimbango said the asbestos sheets that were blown off were reduced to pieces after they were thrown some metres away from her house.
“Some of the asbestos sheets hit a house next door damaging part of its roof while others landed some metres away. No one was injured in the incident but everyone was puzzled as most of the people who were around quickly gathered at my house while sympathising with me,” she said.
She said she does not have money to buy asbestos sheets to repair the roof, as she was unemployed.
A witness to the incident and a pastor with a local church, Pastor Adolf Phiri said they were also shocked by the incident.
He described the incident as a mystery, which he said required “strong” prayers from the affected family.
“What happened to my neighbour was a mystery. I think those were the works of some evil spirits. The family really needs to pray so as to overcome this.
“Everyone who witnessed the incident was left puzzled especially by the manner in which the incident occurred. It was on a calm sunny day.
“The fact that the wind which blew off the roof of the house was limited to my neighbour’s yard only is also mind-boggling,” he said.
