Mzansi90 committee in top gear

Mzansi90 is a special project team set up by Zifa to help raise funds for the Warriors and a target of $617 000 has been set with Monday as the deadline for the money to have been raised.

Briefing journalists during a Press conference in Bulawayo yesterday, Mzansi90 national vice-chairperson, Omega Sibanda, said they are already in full gear and have approached quite a number of corporate bodies and individuals from all corners of the region.

“We are in full gear and as you can see, we have already come up with a list of companies that we have approached and we will still approach more because time is not on our side. We remain hopeful that people will respond positively because this is a national issue,” said Sibanda, flanked by a member of Mzansi90 Jabulani Nkomo.

He urged even individuals to feel free to donate whatever amount they have as it will go a long way in meeting the set target.

Sibanda also said his committee will charter a plane for the fans who would want to go to Angola and cheer the boys on.

“Angola had a number of fans and as Mzansi90 we want to have the largest ever number of fans who will fly out to rally behind the boys,” said Sibanda.

Speaking at the same event, Nkomo said they were under no illusion that the job at hand was an easy one hence the need for everyone in the region to stand up to it.

“It’s a mammoth task which deserves an urgent response because we just have to go to South Africa and I don’t have any doubts whatsoever that Rahman will take us there unless something very terrible happens,” said Nkomo.

The committee today is expected to hold marathon meetings with some influential politicians and business people in the region before announcing what they have raised.

Sibanda said the $10 000 winning bonus has a catch in it; if the Warriors win in Angola and naturally qualify for the finals, they will get $10 000 but if they fail to win in Angola but still go through, they will get $5 000.

Gumbo’s boys carry a seemingly healthy 3-1 first leg win and only need a draw to go through to the finals in South Africa next year but with the huge bonus promised by the Mzansi90 team, the boys might not want to entertain any draw in Luanda.
