FORMER Cabinet Minister Walter Mzembi was yesterday granted $1000 bail by the High Court pending judgment in a case he is accused of defrauding the Government of about US$2 million during his tenure as Tourism and Hospitality Minister.

The charges stem from allegations that he donated television sets meant for the 2010 FIFA World Cup fan parks without Treasury or Cabinet approval.

As part of his bail conditions, Mzembi was ordered to surrender his passport, reside at his Harare address and not travel beyond a 30km radius of the court. He was arrested in June last year upon his return from South Africa.

Mzembi served in various Cabinet portfolios, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Hospitality.
