RESIDENTS of Mzilikazi suburb in Bulawayo have been living in fear, constantly worried that a “serial” thief would strike again.
Their fears have eased, at least temporarily, as the man who has been a constant menace was arrested on Tuesday last week.
Dylan Sibanda’s arrest followed an incident where he allegedly broke into a tenant’s room, ransacking the place and stealing US$280. He is also accused of jumping over a precast wall at a neighbouring house and stealing a pack of washing detergents.
The court heard that Sibanda was the mastermind behind numerous unlawful entry and theft cases in Mzilikazi suburb, stealing anything from items left on washing lines to valuables taken from inside homes.
In one instance, Sibanda allegedly stole US$8 from another house in the suburb. He was spotted leaving the scene, and the matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.
He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube, facing three counts of unlawful entry and theft. He was remanded in custody until February 6 after he failed to pay US$100 bail.
