Girls from Gwanda South went home with silver medals, shield and cash while Gwanda North won the place to claim the bronze medal.
There were also individual awards for players with Sithiselo Nyoni of Mzingwane emerging as the tournament’s top goal scorer, while Noleen Takaendesa from Gwanda South was voted player of the tournament with team-mate Chiedza Moyo getting the accolade for the goal-keeper of the tournament.
Sithateleni Ndlovu from Mzingwane was named the most promising player with Insiza team winning the most disciplined team award.
Rebecca Ndlovu, a school drop-out from Lushangwe High, was given a full scholarship to continue her education from Form three.
Speaking at the end of the event, Wavell Gunda, a representative of the sponsors Buymore Investments, said the tournament was meant to tap the talent at grassroots level.
“Football is not only about the national team but it begins with grassroots from where we get the people to the national team.
“But for the grassroots need efficient administrators,” said Gunda.
Former Mighty Warriors star player Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda encouraged the girls to be patient before they could play for the national team.
“There is talent in the small cities but its not being realised.
“The road to the national team is not easy but players have to walk to get there and you have to be patient and focused,” she said.
Zifa vice-chairman for Matabeleland South, William Chuma urged the teachers in the province to help scout for the talent.
