As the nation is advocating for men to break the silence, and encouraging them to speak up against Gender Based Violence (GBV), and other situations that affect their mental health, award-winning musician Mzoe 7 is also playing his part as he has penned a song that supports the cause.

Titled Angisalali Ekhaya (I no longer sleep at home), the song is a cry for mercy by a victim of abuse, who opens up on the reasons why he prefers to sleep elsewhere, not at home.

K Martin produced the track, which features smooth vocals by Macala, creating a profound commentary and a critical tool that raises awareness in a well-packaged way.

Angisalali Ekhaya is accompanied by high-quality visuals, which were done through a collaborative effort between Keaitse Films and Brand Urgency. The video narrates the obstacles and the abuse the man goes through at the hands of his wife.

To make it more appealing, the video features comedians and content creators Sporori, Umnikazi Wempuphu, Khalanga leNkosi, DJ Skaiva, and many more figures known across social media and the arts fraternity, ensuring that the message reaches a broad and diverse audience.

Mzoe 7 said the song boldly addresses the often-overlooked issue of GBV, especially against men, as society views them as immortal, while they also have feelings and they can cry too.

“At a time dedicated to eradicating GBV in all its forms, my work is a vital contribution, giving a voice to the silent victims who suffer abuse, whether physical, emotional, or psychological, at the hands of their partners.

“The title itself hints at the deep trauma and displacement experienced by men who flee their homes to escape violence.

“The video brings the message to life and features a remarkable cast of influential local content creators and personalities, lending a significant weight and visibility to the cause,” said Mzoe 7.

Mr Gagagugu, as Mzoe 7 is affectionately known, applauded the cinematographers for doing a great job in making sure that the lyrics, as well as the visuals, are in sync, making it effortless to send such a crucial message.

Meanwhile, Mzoe 7 revealed that he will continue playing his role in raising GBV awareness against men, as he said this year he will be involved in different similar initiatives.

He is looking forward to reviving his Majita Lets Talk, a safe space that encourages men to open up.

“I am reviving the Majita Lets Talk platform because there is a need to create safe spaces for men to share their GBV experiences without judgment.

“Through this space, we will be holding discussions on mental health and the impact of trauma, learn about the available support systems and resources, as well as exploring the challenging toxic masculinity that often pressures men into silence,” said Mzoe 7. — @mthabisi_mthire
