THE National Aids Council (NAC) has expressed concern over the increasing number of new HIV infections among young people aged between 15 and 24 in Zimbabwe.
Addressing journalists in Mutare, NAC provincial manager Mr Artwell Shiridzinomwa highlighted the worrying trend.
“Generally, we have a reduction in new HIV infections, but we are still experiencing some worrisome new infections, especially among young people aged 15 to 24,” he said, highlighting that the disturbing trend calls for increased awareness and responsibility among young people.
“In order to curb these new infections, we need to conscientise our young people that your health is your responsibility,” he said.
To address the issue, NAC is undertaking various initiatives, including the NotInMyVillage campaign and media tours.
The organisation is also set to host the National Aids Council Media Awards and the provincial World Aids Day commemorations in Mutare and Zimunya, respectively.
The two-day media tour, which will cover Makoni, Chipinge, and Chimanimani districts, aims to raise awareness and mobilise support for HIV prevention efforts among young people.
