LOCAL artistes, Jeys Marabini, Clement Magwaza, Iyasa and Cal_Vin are expected to headline an HIV and AIDS awareness gig in Bulawayo on Saturday.

The gala, being organised by the National Arts Council (NAC) Bulawayo province, will be held at Stanley Square in Makokoba. It is part of NAC’s efforts to curb the spread of HIV and AIDS in the city.

Organisers said it would be a free event as they want to raise awareness through music. While enjoying the entertainment, NAC will be conducting HIV and AIDS tests with part of the team counselling revellers.

NAC Bulawayo provincial monitoring and evaluation officer, Douglas Moyo, said: “The purpose of the music gala is to encourage as many people to undergo HIV Testing, Cancer screening, Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision as well as access Sexual and Reproductive Health Services.

“The aim is to contribute towards the attainment of the three 90s for ending AIDS by 2030 which are:90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status, 90% of people diagnosed with HIV will receive sustained ART and 90% of all people receiving ART should have undetectable viral load.”

He said artistes would play music with themes related to the AIDS pandemic besides their mainstream songs.

Resources permitting, Moyo hinted plans to make the awareness gig an annual fete
