South Africa-based rap goddess Nadia Nakai is excited after she was revealed as the headlining act at this year’s Shoko Festival which will run from 26 to 28 September in Harare.

Other headlining acts are Tammy Moyo and Dancehall chanter Master H. As a Zimbabwe-born artiste, this will be Nadia Nakai’s homecoming gig and she is thrilled to be a part of an event that celebrates diversity and unity through music and performing arts.

Themed #BothSidesOfSamora, the 14th edition of the festival will act as a powerful torch, shining a light on the historical division between social classes amongst urban youths. The rapper confirmed her appearance at the Shoko festival.

“I am super excited to be returning to Zimbabwe on one of the biggest festivals in the land, Shoko Festival, and this will be an exciting homecoming event as I have spent some time without catching up with my Hip Hop lovers. This is a not to miss event as I will be amongst the performers,” said Nadia Nakai.

The festival’s coordinator ,Vera Chisvo, said the theme pays homage to the young cultural pioneers who are shaping Zimbabwe’s future through their acts of creative resilience. She said the all-star line up was a true reflection of diversity and unity amongst Zimbabweans and they were promoting love and harmony through music and other artistic forms.

“The festival will be a three-day extravaganza, with events like Mashup Night, Shoko Comedy Night, and the main event – Peace in the Hood to be held in Chitungwiza. It promises to bring together a diverse array of Hip Hop, Zim Dancehall, Stand-up Comedy, and spoken word, all under one roof.

“Music knows no boundaries and on this edition, we will be removing the Samora Machel Avenue border line that has always separated the audience.

We are bringing artistes from the Ghetto and those that are preferred in the suburbs as a way of bridging the gap between different social classes and bringing people together for the sake and power of art,” said Chisvo.

Over the years, Shoko Festival has hosted a powerful line-up of African urban culture pioneers like Cassper Nyovest, HHP, AKA, Tehn Diamond, Tumi Morake, Kikky Badass, and Winky D. It is a celebration of free expression, cutting-edge urban art, and alternative youth culture. It is a project of Magamba Network.
