Correspondent Brenda Phiri (BP) caught up with the newly crowned beauty queen for a one-on-one chat and she let us in her world. Now at the peak of her career, it is clear that she has come a long way but the battle is not over yet. In a couple of months, she will be in Europe representing Zimbabwe.
BP: Tell us briefly, who is Nadine?
NH: She is outgoing, determined, strong-headed and focused on the things that matter most in life, that is family and the less fortunate. I’m down to earth and easy to talk to. Also a true friend to many.
BP: When and where you born?
NH: Harare, at the Avenues Clinic.
BP: So you have been in Harare all your life? Where did you go to school?
NH: I did my primary education in Bulawayo at Masiyephambili Primary School and for my high school; it was home tuition from Form One to Four.
BP: So professionally, how far have you gone?
NH: When I finished my Ordinary Levels, I am thankful that NMB Bank gave me a platform to do banking and marketing. I have been doing that since August last year until the first of December this year.
BP: So you have abandoned the banking sector?
NH: Working at the bank made me realise that I would want to further my knowledge in marketing and continue on a higher level. I hope one day, I will open my own company.
BP: So back to modelling, how did it all start?
NH: From the age of 15, most of the encouragement came from people around me as they were fascinated by my height and I had what it takes to be a model. I only started to take it seriously when I was 17 because I had grown up and I knew that I wanted to try it out.
BP: Tell us about your first attempt at modelling and other pageants you have entered.
NH: I have modelled for Fashion Week a couple of times for friends with clothing lines. In total, I have entered three pageants — Miss Teen Zimbabwe 2010 and I took the title, the second one was the Elite Model Look Zimbabwe where I made it to the second round then my recent achievement as the Face of Zimbabwe.
BP: What’s next after Miss G-Tel?
NH: After Miss G-Tel, internationally I would like to take part in the Top Model of the World or Miss Universe pageants.
BP: So we understand you will be invading Poland at the Miss Super National, are you looking forward to that?
NH: Yes, I will be working hand in hand with the G-Tel team and everyone involved in the preparations making sure I am ready to bring home the crown.
BP: Since assuming the new title, how has your life changed?
NH: I have to admit that I am a lot busy and loving it. I have a lot planned so my life is going to change drastically in the coming months. I am happy that I have this opportunity once again.
BP: What activities should we expect to see you taking part in during your reign?
NH: A lot of charity events and appearances. We are currently working on a timetable for the year.
BP: All the best in your reign.
NH: Thank you.
