LUTON Town FC have completed the signing of Zimbabwean international midfielder Marvellous Nakamba from Aston Villa with the official announcement expected to be made soon.

According to sources close to proceedings, Nakamba has finalised a three-year permanent move to join the Hatters.

“The deal is done. What is left now is some paperwork to be completed and the announcement will be made soon,” said a source.

The Marvellous Nakamba Foundation (MNF) also gave a hint on social media platforms. “The journey continues,” they wrote while posting Nakamba in Luton Town colours.

According to the Daily Telegraph football reporter Mike MacGrath, finalisation of the deal is imminent.

“Luton very close to agreeing a deal with Aston Villa for permanent transfer of Marvellous Nakamba after loan at Kenilworth Road last season. Zimbabwe midfielder, 29, No1 target after promotion to Premier League. Deal could be completed in the next 48 hours,” said MacGrath.

The move comes as no surprise as he was a massive reason behind the Hatters’ promotion to the Premier League via the play-off final at Wembley, becoming a huge favourite with supporters along the way.

At Villa he had already been told he was not part of Unai Emery’s plans. The 29-year-old played 20 games for the Hatters after joining on-loan in the January transfer window and helped them seal promotion to the topflight.

He was named Player of the Month for March and also won the Player of the Match accolade in his team’s come from behind 3-1 win over Blackpool on April 10.

Nakamba’s work ethic and dedication have made him an instant fan favourite at Luton Town. His willingness to put in the hard yards and do the dirty work for the team has earned him admiration and respect from both fans and pundits alike.

His defensive solidity and passing ability have been crucial to the team’s fortunes and his impact has been evident in the team’s results.

Nakamba joined Villa on a five-year deal from Club Brugge in 2019 but was never a favourite under Emery.
