ZIMBABWEAN midfielder, Marvelous Nakamba’s impact at English Championship side Luton Town continues to be felt after he was voted the Diamond Player of the Month for March.

“Marvelous Nakamba has won the vote for the Diamond Player of the Month Award for March,’’ announced Luton Town yesterday.

The 29-year-old midfielder won Luton Town’s tightest vote so far, seeing off the challenge of defender Tom Lockyer by just two votes. On loan from Aston Villa, Nakamba picked up 36 percent of the overall vote after playing every minute in March.

Nakamba was influential for the Hatters, who went the whole of March without a defeat and not conceding a single goal from open play. In March, the Hatters won three matches and drew one. The wins were over Swansea, Sheffield United and Bristol City, all by identical 1-0 scorelines.

Since his January deadline day transfer on loan from Aston Villa, Nakamba has in the Championship played 11 matches, 10 in the starting line-up and one substitute appearance.

He has zero shots on target from a total of four attempts and has not scored any goal so far for the third placed Hatters. Nakamba averages 31 passes per match with a pass completion rate of 77 percent and has no assists thus far. Just to show how quietly the Zimbabwean midfield kingpin has gone about in shielding the Luton Town backline, Nakamba has received one yellow card and no red cards.

Nakamba played 90 minutes when Luton Town drew 0-0 with Millwall at The Den on Friday. The next encounter for Nakamba and his teammates is at home against Blackpool.

Luton Town occupy a playoff spot and if they maintain their position, they will have a chance to have a shot at playing in the English Premier League next season.

The move to the Hatters has allowed Nakamba to reignite his career, which had taken a knock at Villa Park where he was no longer getting game time.

Nakamba is still contracted to Villa until June next year.
