Nakatindi national mourning set for today

Secretary to the Cabinet, Evans Chibiliti announced in a statement in Lusaka yesterday that burial would take place on Saturday in Sesheke.
During the period of national mourning from 06:00 to 18:00 hours, all flags will fly at halfmast, while activities of entertainment nature should be postponed or cancelled.

The body arrives today at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 12:50 hours from South Africa.
Meanwhile, more messages of condolences have continued to pour in with the Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) joining the long list.
In the ZNWL message, chairperson Beauty Phiri said her organisation was deeply saddened by the death of Princess Nakatindi.

Ms Phiri said ZNWL was sorrowful because the princess worked in women empowerment programmes, especially the advancement of women in decision making and was a firm believer in gender equality.

“The women’s movement will miss her dearly because she was determined to achieve her goals. She worked with the women’s movement and provided her dedicated service for the cause of women in Zambia,” she said.
She said Princess Nakatindi, who has been accorded a State funeral, was one of the first advocates of the struggle to re-introduce multiparty politics in 1990.

Women for Change (WfC) executive director Emily Sikazwe said her organisation was saddened by the untimely death of Princess Nakatindi. She said in a separate statement that Zambia had lost a patriotic citizen who participated in the struggle for a better Zambia.

Mr Chibiliti said Government representatives, military personnel and family members would receive the body at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 12:50 hours.
“Mourners are encouraged to assemble at the funeral house in Mimosa, Chilanga where the body will lie in State before a Church service on Friday 13 April  at the

Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka,” he said.
A military escort would take the body to Lusaka City Airport immediately after the Church service from where it would be flown to Mwandi in Sesheke. It will lie in state

in Sesheke tomorrow in readiness for burial on Saturday. – Times of Zambia
