THE dogs are barking while the caravan is moving!
After social media was awash with many music lovers castigating the National Arts Merit Awards (Namas), as an “unfair entity, which crown people of their preference,” one of the musos who caught stray bullets — Kinah The Music has spoken out about being in the cross fire.
The Namas were held on 24 February at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
Kinah The Music was crowned the winner in the Best Newcomer category, where he was nominated alongside Mbida-D and Bagga.
One of the critics targeting Rn’B singer-cum-guitarist’s win at the awards is Shadaya Knight, a socialite.
“These Namas are a scam. Like him or not, Holy Ten deserved Best Male, Best Song and even Best Album. The whole of 2023 akarira (he was on fire).
“Even Best Newcomer, Bagga was robbed. Outstanding Journalist? The only rightful thing about these awards was Winky D winning People’s Choice Award, but they could have rigged him if they wanted.
“How does the biggest event in the entertainment industry happen without many people knowing about it? Poor marketing,” posted Shadaya Knight on his social media pages.
However, apart from critics, Kinah believes he deserved to win the accolade and he acknowledged that anyone is free to air their views and opinions, especially when it comes to critical issues like awards.

“Well, opinions and different views are allowed. We all can’t be one sided, otherwise we wouldn’t have the different genres and artiste preferences. But, on the contrary, what makes my art different would be my ability to mix my vernacular, add live instruments with a mix of digital style on production.
“I am real in my music, even in different genres you can still feel and hear me in all of them without having to question if it’s me.
“I think what made me outstanding is that I’ve done lots of work with different artistes from different backgrounds and genres, with some being award-winning artistes, thus, helping me to have a different palate and approach to my own music.
“I am the official winner, but I think it goes to the positive criticism I get from people who tell me when I’m doing something wrong and when I’m headed in the right direction. These people help me put out my best and above all I give praise to God, for he enables our abilities and grants our prayers,” said Kinah.
He said the win at the Namas has motivated him to do more.
“For the year 2024, I am planning to drop more visuals for my singles. I’m planning to drop my album titled Valentines’ in December as well as an Extended Play with Ryan Synth featuring some of the gifted artistes,” said Kinah.
