WINDHOEK. – Namibia’s Ministry of Health and Social Services jointly with its Angolan counterpart are crafting the memorandum of understanding, set to formalise collaboration to strengthen the countries’ ability to fight malaria, said Juliet Kavetuna, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services on Thursday.
According to Kavetuna, the agreement will allow both institutions to better serve citizens and tackle the health problem of malaria epidemic.
“The draft memorandum of understanding on cross border collaboration is ready for submission to the Office of the Attorney General and development partners have been sensitised on the need for supporting Angola with effective malaria control programme,” she said.
Malaria outbreak is a great concern, especially in the northern part of the country and cross-border regions between Angola and Namibia.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister said that an additional $900,000 would be required for effective implementation of the response programme on the fight against malaria. So far, only $154 000 has been availed by Office of Minister.
The Ministry is set to run a malaria advocacy campaign, scheduled to commence in September 2017 which will entail spray operator training and logistic arrangements including procurement of insecticides and equipment. – Xinhua.
