Namibian woman nabbed for forgery

Plumtree Correspondent
A NAMIBIAN woman has appeared in court for unlawfully extending her stay in the country by a month.
Fransina Ndemu Hamgiga, 20, also forged a document issued to her by the Bulawayo Immigration Office by changing her purpose of visit. The Plumtree Magistrate’s Court heard that Hamgiga came into the country on March 18 for a two-week visit.

Upon entering the country she was issued with a document stating that she was supposed to leave on March 30 but she went on to fraudulently alter her period of stay to April 30.

As she was leaving the country, Plumtree Border immigration officers noticed that she had altered her days.
Prosecuting, Medica Tshuma said immigration officers also noticed that Hamgiga had changed her purpose of visit from visiting to learning.

He said immigration officers later learnt that the Namibian girl first approached the Bulawayo Immigration Office to have her stay extended under the pretext that she was a student.

She was however advised that she had to obtain a permit if she wanted to study in the country and was ordered to leave the country on March 30 as stated before.

Hamgiga then altered the departure date by inserting April 30.
She appeared before Plumtree magistrate Livard Philemon and was ordered to pay $100 fine or spend 20 days in prison in case of default.
