THREE Bulawayo women who allegedly teamed up to assault two Namibians accusing them of bedding a husband to one of them appeared in court yesterday.
Mbalenhle Mitchell Magama, Tapiwa Chiwundo and Kholwani Baloyi all aged 24 were charged for kidnapping, assaulting and impairing the dignity of Nancy Kaambo.
Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya granted the trio $50 bail each and remanded them to April 29.
“The application for bail is hereby granted on condition that accused persons don’t interfere with State witnesses and that they surrender their passports to the clerk of court for security,” said magistrate Tashaya in response to their lawyer, Costar Dube’s bail application.
Magret Takawira for the State alleged that Magama discovered that Kaambo, 20, a Form Four pupil at Speciss College was friends with her husband’s girlfriend.
“Magama then hatched a plan to assault Kaambo and her friends with blessings from the two co-accused persons. On March 24 at around 1PM, the trio invited Kaambo and her friend Veihamisa Tjaramba to a local complex on the pretext of selling Avon products to them,” said Takawira.
Tjaramba’s age was not given in court and it was not clear if she was also attending school in Zimbabwe.
“The two were told the products were somewhere else and they got into Magama’s vehicle. Magama drove to a secluded place in Famona and when they got there, the three women started accusing Kaambo of flirting with Magama’s husband.”
The court heard that the three accused persons took turns to assault Kaambo.
“They ordered her to undress and went on to assault her while she was stark naked. Afterwards, the three women drove to Centenary Park where they continued to assault Kaambo while one of them recorded the act with a cellphone,” she added.
In the recording the women can be heard saying the assault was punishment for Kaambo’s decision to bed a man who is married to one of them.
