EMPLOYEES at Nyangani FM are allegedly working in fear of their lives following nightly visits to the community radio station’s premises by a popular traditional healer.
According to Nyangani FM staff members who requested anonymity, countless mysterious things are taking place at the station.
The occurrences allegedly include the mysterious planting of a Mundiripano tree, as well as small ritual stones that were found under the sound mixers in the studio on countless occasions.
Said one staff member: “We woke up one day to find out that a small Mundiripano tree had been planted at the studio premises.
“We suspected that the traditional healer who is always here at night had planted it. The tree was later mowed down when the lawn was trimmed. We honestly do not know the traditional healer’s motive since he is a frequent visitor,” said the source.
The traditional healer, who was only identified as Sekuru Chihwa, is reportedly rarely seen at the station during the day.
However, station manager Bright Barwe rubbished the claims saying traditional healers frequent their studios on Mondays and Wednesdays at night since they have a show titled “Chivanhu Chedu” (Our Culture).
“I stay at the station and I have never witnessed such visits. The traditional healer who makes regular visits is part of the radio programme, together with his other colleagues. He is never here alone,” said Barwe.
He also rubbished claims that a Mundiripano tree was planted at the station, or the fact that some stones were found under the sound mixer.
Some people across Manicaland believe that when someone plants a Mundiripano tree, it is an indication that they will be staying at that place for the long haul.
