This is an initiative by the National Association of Primary Heads to promote volleyball.
The inaugural primary schools competitions will be held this year countrywide on a date to be announced.
All along the sport was played at secondary school level and as such players were not exposed to the sport at a tender age.
In an effort to ensure teachers are fully capacitated in terms of the technical aspects of the game, Hwange district held a three-day course for both primary and secondary school teachers that covered theory, practical, sports medicine and sports administration.
“The course started on Thursday and will end tomorrow. A total of 46 participants attended with our facilitators coming from the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association and National University of Science and Technology’s department of sports,” said Enock Ngwenya a physical education resource teacher in the district. Khanyile Dlamini is the chief instructor with Morris Banda and Kudzai Sibangani assisting.
