CONTEMPORARY Afro-fusion musician, Nancy Mutize, popularly known as Nasibo, is gearing up for the release of her new album ‘The Bird Must Fly.’
It is a powerful collection of songs that celebrate African roots and culture and is scheduled to be released on August 2.
Nasibo, renowned for her mastery of the traditional Mbira instrument, has captivated audiences worldwide with her soulful vocals, Shona yodeling, and Ndebele vocal styles.
The nine-track upcoming album, inspired by her totem Hungwe (African Fish Eagle), symbolises her journey to spread her wings and pave the way for her musical trajectory.
“The title and theme of my new album, ‘The Bird Must Fly,’ is inspired by my totem, Hungwe. Just as the eagle spreads its wings, ZARUWE symbolises my journey and the desire to spread my wings with guidance,” Nasibo said.
The new album showcases Nasibo’s unique Afro-fusion sound, blending the traditional Mbira with contemporary influences and it consists of songs like Zaruwe, Tsimba, Hondo, Moto, Chirimudenga, Mai Maria, Tatadza Kureva and Zapeyi.
Fans can expect a powerful listening experience that celebrates African heritage and addresses societal issues through Nasibo’s heartfelt songwriting.
As a female artist, in the male-dominated music industry, Nasibo has faced her fair share of challenges and biases.
However, she has remained resilient, honing her craft and advocating for women’s rights and empowerment through her music and role as a music educator.
“I have overcome these challenges by staying true to my artistic vision, consistently honing my craft, and surrounding myself with a supportive network of peers and mentors,” she said.
“My advice to aspiring female musicians is to remain resilient and passionate. Embrace your uniqueness, never stop learning, and seek out supportive communities that uplift and inspire you.”
In addition to her musical career, Nasibo has also worked as a backing vocalist for Jah Prayzah.
With the release of “The Bird Must Fly,” Nasibo is poised to soar to new heights, showcasing her exceptional talent and her commitment to uplifting African culture and empowering women in the industry.
