A simple night out turned ugly when a drunken misunderstanding over beer ended with blood, bruises, and a stolen stash of cash.
Allty Shandavu (32) from Gwabalanda suburb, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Archie Wochiwunga facing assault charges after allegedly attacking his drinking mate and robbing him of US$400.
Shandavu was released on US$30 bail and ordered not to interfere with State witnesses. He must also stay at the address he provided to the court until the matter is finalised.
According to prosecutor Audrey Kufandikanwe, the violent incident unfolded in the early hours of 17 August at Chigumira Shopping Centre in Luveve.
At around 3am, Shandavu and the complainant, Tafara Usayi, were drinking beer together when a misunderstanding erupted over one of the bottles.
“Usayi decided to walk away to avoid further confrontation,” said Kufandikanwe. “However, this did not sit well with the accused, who grabbed a Viceroy bottle and struck him once on the face.”
With Usayi reeling from the blow and nursing a swollen eye, Shandavu allegedly rummaged through his pockets, snatched US$400, and fled the scene.
Neighbours and patrons at the shopping centre were left shocked as Usayi staggered for help, bleeding and dazed.
A police report was filed, leading to Shandavu’s arrest. Unfortunately, none of the stolen money has been recovered.
The case was remanded to 17 September for continuation.
