Up and coming Gospel musician Natasha Mlalazi is steadily carving a niche for herself in the game after delivering a powerful rendition of the Christian hymn Blessed Assurance.
The song, released on September 18, is part of Celestial Chorus Volume 3 and it has seen Natasha breathing new life into the classic hymn originally written by Fanny Crosby in 1873.
Natasha, who is the daughter of multi-award-winning Gospel musician Everton Mlalazi, delivers the song with a strong vocal performance that reflects the hymn’s themes of faith, joy and surrender to God.
Blessed Assurance centres on the believer’s confidence in God, expressing trust in Jesus Christ and the peace that comes from surrendering one’s life to His guidance.
Natasha’s mother, Gamuchirai Mlalazi, who has been a strong supporter of her daughter’s musical journey, said she was proud of her growth as both an artiste and an individual.
“This is a blessed assurance that Jesus is mine. I thank Natasha for doing justice to this favourite hymn of ours as a family. We are also grateful to Nigel Nyangombe for an uplifting arrangement of the song. Dumane (Mlalazi), thank you for grooming such an exceptional talent from the tummy to the stages of the world,” she said.
A Gospel music enthusiast identified on YouTube as Craig Tshepo Ntuliki also praised Natasha’s performance, describing the song as a powerful spiritual experience.
“Listening to this masterpiece is nothing short of a spiritual awakening. Her voice carries such profound grace, heavy anointing and a purity that transcends ordinary music. It literally draws heaven down to earth,” said Ntuliki.
The release adds to an impressive year for the young musician, who has already collected several accolades on the international stage.
In February, Natasha won a Gold Medal at the East United International Music Competition held in Malaysia.
In June, she scooped two accolades at the Hellenic Academy Musician of the Year Awards, winning Best Vocalist and Overall Musician of the Year.
She followed that up in July with another Gold Award in the High School Piano Solo Division at the International European Music Competition (EUIMC) in Hamburg, Germany.
Earlier this year, Natasha also performed at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMAs), where she shared the stage with Little Eliana and Sipho Snowy.
The trio delivered a rendition of Zimbabwe’s national anthem to officially open the awards ceremony.
With a growing list of achievements and increasing confidence on stage, Natasha is establishing herself as a promising young musician while carrying forward the Mlalazi family’s musical legacy.
