Obert Moses Mpofu
NATION-BUILDING is often a tedious process that requires much thought and great attention to detail.
The art of nation-building oftentimes requires very difficult decisions and balance between current needs of the people as well as their future aspirations.
It is never an easy task.
There is need for a great deal of patience in trying to find the right formula to achieve the intended results.
But all this requires wit and wisdom.
In the political arena, failing to heed the message from the people can be disastrous.
There is wisdom in staying close to the people and making bold decisions that transform their lives.
The new Zimbabwe that my party ZANU PF’s Government has been building since 2017 requires grit, determination and being closer cooperation with the people.
The robust public works to upgrade Harare’s infrastructure ahead of the SADC Summit in August, during which His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa will assume chairmanship of the regional bloc, is testament of how our leadership seriously take the task at hand.
President Mnangagwa’s chairmanship offers the region a front-row seat to witness his prowess and astute leadership.
Great times lie ahead.
Harare is being transformed overnight, with the massive road rehabilitation works across city.
The ongoing works are at a scale never seen before.
They are not meant for the summit only but will benefit our people through world-class infrastructure.
These are just but small steps in the broader transformation of Zimbabwe into an empowered, modern, prosperous and highly industrialised country by 2030.
Infrastructure is a critical component behind any meaningful economic transformation.
Zimbabwe is reclaiming its pride of place as an economic powerhouse in the region and beyond.
The structural transformation of Zimbabwe at the advent of the Second Republic is what has made all this possible.
Our country has gone through perhaps one of the most difficult phases following the imposition of unilateral illegal economic sanctions, but we have since charted a new trajectory that will guarantee future prosperity.
The recently introduced new currency, the ZiG, currency has defied the naysayers.
It has not only stood firm but has been growing from strength to strength.
As Zimbabwe’s new dawn of prosperity beckons, let us all join hands and play our part in building this our great nation.
Indeed, “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo; ilizwe lakhiwangabanikazi balo”.
