LISTED agro-processing concern National Foods is targeting to open 10 stockfeed outlets across the country by the end of the year as the firm seeks to establish a one-stop shop concept for farmers.

The firm’s regional sales manager Simon Mlambo told Business Chronicle yesterday at the official opening of their first new stock feed outlet in Bulawayo that the driving force was to create convenience for farmers.

“The thrust of these countrywide roll outs is to create convenience for farmers as we know that farmers are busy people who don’t have time to go around looking for isolated goods and services.

“So setting up one-stop shops for them where they can get everything they need be it advice, stockfeeds or day-old chicks, will make their work easier,” he said.

Mlambo said the model to roll-out stockfeeds outlets in the city centres was the first of its kind by his organisation.

He said a similar outlet was opened in Harare last month and the response from farmers was overwhelming.

Mlambo said another outlet was opened in Masvingo at the same time with the Bulawayo one.

He said the aim was not only to bring services closer to the farmers but to also ensure the prices are competitive given the prevailing economic challenges facing farmers.

“We’ve reduced our prices so that they are affordable to farmers who are coming from another drought season,” said Mlambo.

He said plans were underway to open similar outlets in Gweru and Mutare.
