National Foods Ltd has said at least 49 institutions are regular beneficiaries of its corporate social responsibility drive which targets vulnerable communities across the nation.
The group’s human resources manager, Mrs Alice Pawarikanda highlighted this during a hand over of groceries to children with hearing and speech impairments at Morgenster Mission’s Henry Murray School in Masvingo on Thursday.
“As a company, we have since resolved to plough back to the community through donations of grocery hampers to vulnerable communities across the nation as part of our corporate social responsibility programme,” Mrs Pawarikanda said.
National Foods has been donating to the school for more than 10 years.
Mrs Pawarikanda applauded the school authorities for being honest in handling the regular annual donations by the company.
“There are neither reports of pilferage, nor theft of donations meant for children. We, therefore applaud the school’s leadership for being transparent and accountable,” she said.
Meanwhile, National Foods public relations manager, Ms Marjorie Mutemererwa said the CSR programme had positively transformed many lives.
“It’s humbling to see the magnitude of care being given by the school staff to children with hearing and speech impairments and how they value this gesture,” Ms Mutemererwa said.
The grocery donation comprising flour, mealie-meal, rice and many other foodstuffs was received by the Henry Murray teacher-in-charge, Beatrice Stole.
“We are very grateful for the continued support from National Foods and we pray for sustainability of the company.
“The gesture is indeed commendable,” Sithole added.
National Foods said it would proceed with such gesture to Mucheke Old People’s Home in Masvingo.
