PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has expressed profound shock over the tragic bus accident in South Africa’s Limpopo province that claimed 42 lives, including Zimbabweans and Malawians.

In a statement on Monday, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and directed relevant Government agencies to provide State assistance for the repatriation of remains and burial arrangements.

“It is with a deep sense of shock and grief that I learnt of the fatal road accident, which claimed 42 people from different nationalities, including Zimbabwean citizens,” President Mnangagwa said.

He urged that the tragedy be a reminder for authorities to enforce stricter traffic regulations, especially as cross-border travel in the SADC region increases. “Life remains precious whenever it is lost and in whatever country,” he said.

The President also called for closer collaboration among traffic enforcement agencies across borders and harmonisation of vehicular traffic laws to prevent future tragedies.

President Mnangagwa praised South Africa’s government for its swift support and cooperation in responding to the incident.
