MASVINGO is about to become the pool capital of Zimbabwe as the Zimbabwe Pool Association (Zipa) gears up to host the 2025 National Singles Pool Championship at Nevsun Select Hall on November 22 and 23.

Tournament director Wellington “Dewa” Chikasha says the event promises high drama, top talent, and plenty of thrills for fans and players alike. Over the two days, some of the country’s best cueists will battle it out in a knockout showdown, with bragging rights and serious cash prizes on the line.

“Registration is pegged at US$30 for men and US$20 for women. The deadline is 20 November and there will be no registration on the day,” Chikasha warned. He added that all players must be present for the draw, which will be conducted by Zipa board members or delegated officials.

Chikasha emphasised that punctuality will be strictly enforced. “Once play begins, players must be available. Anyone not present within five minutes will forfeit a frame, and after 12 minutes the entire game will go to the opponent,” he said.

The tournament will follow a single elimination format. The first round to the semi-finals will be a race to five frames, and the semis to the final will be a race to seven frames. Winners will pocket handsome prizes. The men’s champion will walk away with US$700 and a trophy, while the runner up takes US$400 plus a trophy. Third and fourth place earn US$200 each with medals.

In the women’s division, the stakes are equally tempting. The winner gets US$400, the runner up US$200, and third place US$100.

Dress code is strict and players are warned to comply. Black formal trousers, a white shirt or Fish Eagles shirt, and black closed shoes are mandatory. No shorts, gumboots, or slippers will be tolerated. Violators face automatic loss of the frame.

“All referees will be provided by the hosting province, but I may make changes if necessary,” said Chikasha.

With top talent, strict rules, and cash prizes up for grabs, Masvingo is set to witness cue battles that will have fans on the edge of their seats. The countdown is on, and players are sharpening their cues for the National Singles showdown.
