THE Zimbabwe National Youth Games local organising committee (LOC) launch function postponed last week will take place in the mining town of Hwange on Friday.
The event was iced last Friday as the gamesa�� Local Organising Committee (LOC) saw it fit to pave way for the all important fourth Presidential Youth Interface rally in Lupane .
Scores of youths from Matabeleland North graced the rally where the President delivered his speech which addressed their concerns.
a�?The gamesa�� launch function will take place on Friday at Edmund Davis Hall in Hwange. We had to postpone the event because we did not want our function to become a counter attraction to the Presidential Youth Interface rally in Lupane,a�? said Matabeleland North province Sports and Recreation Committee (SRC) co-ordinator Newman Masuku.
Matabeleland North province plays host to the inaugural rebranded National Youth Games from 17 to 27 August and the LOC wants to use the launch to drum up support for the event.
Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Minister Cain Mathema, who is also provincial patron of the Youth Games, is expected to officiate at the launch.
National Youth Games LOC chief executive officer Burzil Dube said it was all systems go for the annual fete.
a�?We are targeting corporates to make sure the games are a success because our national patron, His Excellency President Mugabe, wants them to be a success,a�? said Dube.
Hwange will be the command centre for the Youth Games while the sport codes will be spread across the province.
Athletes will be accommodated in schools and a budget of $2 million has been drawn up for hosting of the games.
