The National Building Society (NBS) last Friday celebrated 10 years of operation, and reinforced its agenda of building communities through affordable housing and sustainable banking solutions.
Delivering remarks on behalf of NBS board chairman Mr Shingai Mutumbwa during a cocktail, Board Member Mrs Sithokozile Mrewa said the event was more than a celebration of longevity.
She framed the occasion as a reflection of how the society’s development over the past 10 years has been driven by trust, collaboration, and community engagement.
“Our journey has been shaped by shared success, continuous innovation, and a commitment to delivering affordable housing and sustainable banking solutions,” Mrs Mrewa said, adding that NBS has remained guided by core values of commitment, courage, care, and creativity.
Mrs Mrewa told guests that 10 years ago, NBS set out with a “bold ambition” to redefine banking by building communities.
She said that vision has since matured into what she described as “a tangible reality,” with NBS now operating as “more than just a bank”.
Mrs Mrewa added that the growth and credibility of the institution has been sustained by the support of customers and partners, allowing NBS to deepen its role in helping communities progress and grow.
She said NBS continues to push boundaries by embracing innovation and working toward “lasting value,” not only for customers but for the wider communities it serves.
NBS managing director Mr Sifiso Mahlangu said the day’s success went beyond play. He described the gathering as a chance for guests to come together “relaxed, refreshed, and in good company,” adding that golf was only part of the purpose.
“Today wasn’t just about the golf (although I’m sure there are a few impressive scorecards out there!), it was about connection, camaraderie, and celebrating the journey we’ve shared.”
Mr Mahlangu said the anniversary served as a reminder of what he described as the foundation of the society’s growth, relationships.
He pointed to partnerships, conversations, and shared moments like the golf event as key to strengthening NBS over time, noting that NBS views its mission through the lens of long-term engagement.
“At NBS, our mission remains clear, to Bank, Build, and go Beyond. And going beyond, for us, is not just about what we offer, but how we show up, through meaningful engagement, collaboration, and creating spaces like today where relationships can grow,” he said.
