The National Building Society (NBS) on Thursday unveiled 65 newly built low-cost houses in Amalinda high density suburb.
The houses will mainly benefit workers from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, the Zimbabwe Nurses Association and SeedCo.
Speaking at the unveiling, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Priscah Mupfumira applauded the NBS for delivering on its mandate only a year into its existence.
She said more houses were currently being built in areas including Chinhoyi, Gweru and Masvingo. “The initial target, depending on availability of land is 10 000 units by 2018, however, these will be reviewed on an annual basis,” she said.
Speaking at the same event, National Social Security Authority (NSSA) board chairman Robin Vela said by the end of the second quarter of this year, NBS had delivered 3 000 houses across the country.
The NBS is wholly owned by NSSA.
It opened for business early last year and is mandated to develop low cost housing across the country for low income earners. — New Ziana.
