NBSZ beefs up stocks ahead of festive season

Freedom Mupanedemo Midlands Bureau
The National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) Midlands region has stepped up campaigns to collect blood ahead of the festive season, amid indications that stocks of blood group O, which is used in emergencies, were now low.

In an interview yesterday, NBSZ planning, information and recruitment officer Mr Aggry Ngazani said the institution had collected enough stocks to see it through the festive season but its bank could run dry in January.

“We have managed to collect enough blood to see us through the Christmas holidays. The challenge, however is that the consumption of blood group ‘O’ is high. The demand is high for this type of blood which is used in emergencies and what we have in stocks might not be enough to see us through to the New Year holidays,” he said.

Mr Ngazana said they have intensified blood donation campaigns around the province in bid to beef up stocks.

“We are going to be in Torwood, Redcliff and Shurugwi on January 4 and 5 respectively to beef up our stocks,” he said.
