The National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) is holding a blood donation drive in Bulawayo, attracting hundreds of residents eager to donate.

NBSZ Southern Region Coordinator, Mr Sifundo Ngwenya, said the drive, organised in partnership with Redan Petroleum, aims to collect 450 units of blood—slightly more than the 425 units collected during the previous drive.
“This blood drive has been ongoing for quite some time, and we are truly grateful to the people of Bulawayo who consistently come out in large numbers to donate,” he said.
“We started at 6 am, and our target is to collect 450 units today, up from 425 units last time,” he added.

Mr Ngwenya expressed optimism about the turnout, hoping many more donors will arrive before the drive closes at 6 pm.
“Life is in the blood, and we encourage everyone aged 16 to 65 to come and donate,” he said.
He also highlighted the increasing number of accidents in the Southern Region, emphasizing the urgent need for blood donations as demand fluctuates.
“We are especially low on blood group O, which is a universal donor type compatible with A, AB, and others, so while all blood groups are important, group O is critical,” he stressed.
