THE Ad-hoc inter-Ministerial committee on the Bulawayo water situation is today (Friday) touring the Nyamandlovu Aquifer to assess progress by the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) in hardening transformer targets as well as water availability in the city.

The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) and Zesa previously noted that they were incurring huge losses through vandalism and theft of water and electricity pumping infrastructure, forcing the Government to periodically release resources to facilitate expensive repairs and procurement of new components.

The thieves usually targeted critical borehole pumping system elements, electricity cables and transformer components.

This saw President Mnangagwa appointing an inter-Ministerial committee tasked with ensuring increased security and also overally tasked with finding lasting solutions to the perennial water shortages in Bulawayo.

The committee is led by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture Fisheries, Water and Rural development,Dr Anxious Masuka, who is leading today’s tour, Defence Minister, Oppah Muchinguri-Kachiri, Minister of Energy and Power Development, July Moyo, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, Minister of State and National Security, Lovemore Matuke, Bulawayo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube and Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Richard Moyo.
