Ncube finally gets game time

FORMER Highlanders FC utility player Milton Ncube finally made his debut in the South African Absa Premiership when he was part of the Ajax Cape Town side that went down 0-3 to Pretoria University last week.Ncube, considered to have been the unsung driving force behind Highlanders in the last two years, said he was happy with having finally broken into the first team after a three-month wait.

He came on as a second half substitute but failed to help the Urban Warriors to victory. He believes he did well considering that it was his first game in the PSL. The Warriors defender told Chronicle Sport: “I’m thrilled about finally getting a deserved opportunity to showcase my worth in one of the top leagues in the world. What kept me hopeful and alive is the kind of motivation I always got from the coach and my teammates.

“Coach Roger de Sa told me to just go there and enjoy myself as an experienced player but unfortunately the damage was already done.”
Ncube said Roger de Sa told him to keep on working hard as his time would eventually come.

“He is such a great motivator and one of the best disciplinarians I have ever worked under, what is special about our coach is that he treats us equally and he explains to each individual about why he is not in the team and then advises you to work hard on that area of weakness. After that match even though we lost I saw myself as a useful player. I’m prepared to grab that opportunity and fight for the starting line up which is possible considering my work rate,” said Ncube.

Ncube will be up against his former teammate at Bosso, Khumbulani Banda, who plays for Maritzburg United alongside former Warriors striker Terrence Mandaza in two weeks’ time in a league game.
