Ndhlovu hopeful

GEORGIA. — Georgia Regents University Augusta cross-country and track and field assistant coach Pardon Ndhlovu said that, though there is still work to be done, he is one giant step closer to competing in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics.

Zimbabwean Ndhlovu came in 10th place at the Chevron Houston Marathon on January 18, with a time of 2:16:52, qualifying him for the 2016 Olympics with a B Standard, according to the Chevron Houston Marathon race results website.

“That was pretty cool,” Ndhlovu said. “I mean I’ve never really won (a) NCAA National Championship, which is one of the goals I had when I was back at Pembroke.

And now, you know, just thinking of qualifying for the Olympics, it’s a bigger stage for me. Not that I want to compare NCAA and the Olympics, but this is big and I’m pretty excited.”

Ndhlovu said that his goal for the race was to qualify with an A Standard. — The Bell Ringer.
