DEPUTY Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr Ray Ndhlukula has called for the alignment of the Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework with the recently adopted Government economic blueprint to ensure congruency in their lifespan and activities.
Government adopted the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Social and Economic Transformation (Zim Asset) to run between now and 2018 while Zundaf was adopted last year and would end in 2015.
Zundaf is the UN’s strategic programme to support national development priorities and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
Dr Ndhlukula said the alignment of Zundaf to ZimAsset should be the preoccupation of Zundaf thematic groups next year.
“Zim Asset is the economic blue print that is guiding the operations of Government until 2018 and, therefore, there is need to align the Zundaf with ZimAsset to ensure that there is no programming disjuncture between Government thrust and Zundaf,” he said.
“Another aspect that needs to be discussed now is the misalignment of the cycles of the Zundaf and Zim Asset respectively. Zundaf is ending in 2015 and yet Zim Asset ends in 2018.
“Do we need to come up with a new Zundaf after 2015 whose cycle ends in 2020 or the current one should be extended to 2018 when the cycle for Zim Asset is also ending hence providing a complete alignment of the two in terms of their life cycles and programming activities?”
