TONDERAI NDIRAYA’s arrival at former champions Chicken Inn could be the beginning of a big project set to restore the Gamecocks’ place among the Premiership’s elite.
Ndiraya has won the last two league titles with Simba Bhora and Scottland (2024 and 2025), and it will be naive to think his new team will simply make up the numbers in 2026.
Although he replaced veteran Joey Antipas, who has also equally earned his stripes, those close to Ndiraya point to a demanding coach, who builds something to win everything.
Naturally such a situation could see a number of new recruits at Gamecocks, while some veterans will, however, stay put for the coming season.
Chief among the players that have committed to the Gamecocks cause are towering Itai “Ijoma” Mabhunu, Michael Charamba, Mpumelelo Bhebhe and Brandon Rendo.
“These are our boys and we are glad they have proved their dedication,” said Chicken Inn secretary-general Tavengwa Hara.
“It’s pleasing to note that Mabhunu, Mpumelelelo, Rendo, Charamba, Brian Muza, George Majika and Donovan Bernard have committed to the club.
“These our sons we are very happy that come this season we are going to start afresh with them. I guess they want to prove a point after playing the whole of 2025 season under pressure.
“Now they will be free from the relegation stress,” said Hara.
Interestingly, among those staying is Charamba, a player that announced himself to the big stage under Ndiraya at Ngezi Platinum Stars.
According to impeccable sources a massive player recruitment is beckoning at the Simbisa Brands-sponsored outfit amid rumours that Peter Muduhwa and Walter Musona are being targeted.
The Gamecocks have shown intent after their technical crew overhaul.
Ndiraya came on board with trusted lieutenant Naison Muchekela as first assistant coach and young Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube as his second.
Muchekela took over the position of first assistant coach from Philani Mabhena and Ncube, a former Bantu Rovers player and Dulivadzimu coach, replaces Guide Goddard.
All the members who made the Gamecocks technical department, goalkeepers coach Energy Murambadoro, medical team members Wayson Mpala, Joseph Magura and team manager Sikhumbuzo Banda have been frozen out.
